Pack Mentality

Postby Phang » Fri Jun 30, 2006 1:59 pm

I am toying with the idea of creating a sub_routine to allow multipal robots to work together in a "pack mentality".

I've seen some code where this was done and want to known how well does it work?

I'm not sure if such a set up would be "Tournament" legal, but since we seem to be all that is left we make the rules... :D

There was a "Team" class tourniment a while back, but as I recall, very few people submitted bots. I had an idea for a bot, but I don't remember if I ever finished it.

Basically, there IS a way to send messages (through the comm) to other robots. You can pick a pre-defined channel, and tell the other robots information.

But, the reality of the matter is that the current AT-Robots version don't really have support for a "team win". I don't think it would be too hard to add, but I don't have a Pascal compiler, so I can't add it to ATR2 as it stands now. Maybe I should get off my ass and work on a clone myself :-)

Google for Turbo Pascal 7.0. You can get it legally free of charge. It's small, but for DOS.

Lol. Stop breaking my excuses! Actually, I have a NetBSD and Linux box, so I think I have a pascal compiler. Although I don't think they support BGI graphics :-)

I'd like to port AT-Robots into a Java application, but I don't have the time to devote to it.
